Classic Kitchen Performances: Grandmaster Flash in Wild Style
I've talked a lot about the intersection of food or music and city spaces, but what about the intersection of music in food spaces, such as kitchens? For one reason or another, there have been a number of musical performances shot in kitchens for film and television throughout the years. For me, the first that comes to mind is always legendary DJ Grandmaster Flash cutting up records in his kitchen from the 1983 movie Wild Style. In addition to the classic musical performance and retro kitchen scenery, there are also some cuts to scenes from the early 1980s in NYC, including kids dancing in the park, painting murals, or walking through urban wilderness.
